Outward Hound Fun Feeder Slo Bowl, Large/Regular, Purple

The Outward Hound Fun Feeder Slo Bowl is a plastic maze bowl that makes dogs work around ridges to reach their food. The Large/Regular Purple version suits medium and large dogs.

Who it suits

Dogs that finish a bowl of kibble in seconds and owners who want a simple, dishwasher-safe way to stretch mealtime. Smaller sizes exist for little dogs.

Key facts

• Ridges and mazes are designed to make meals last up to 10x longer (Outward Hound)
• Large holds 3 to 4 cups, Medium 2 cups, Small 3/4 cup (Outward Hound)
• BPA, PVC, lead and phthalate free, non-slip base, top rack dishwasher safe (Outward Hound)
• The Large Purple Flower bowl measures 11.75 inches across and 2 inches deep (Outward Hound)

What reviewers say

Whole Dog Journal calls it a budget-friendly top pick that is easy to fill and wash and stays in place, while noting tougher puzzle bowls slow dogs more. In an earlier Whole Dog Journal device test, as reported by Outward Hound, this bowl added more than 8 minutes to a test dog’s meal, but the narrow channels made hand washing harder.

Pros and cons

• Pro: Clear slowing effect in an independent comparison
• Pro: Non-slip and dishwasher safe
• Pro: Three sizes for different dogs
• Con: Narrow grooves are tedious to scrub by hand
• Con: Plastic can be chewed or scratched

Cautions

• Supervise dogs that chew bowls, and replace the bowl if it cracks.
• Talk to your vet if your dog gulps food, vomits after meals or is at risk of bloat.
