The PetSafe Come With Me Kitty is a lightweight nylon strap harness with quick-snap buckles and a matching bungee leash. The San Francisco SPCA names it as an example of a harness designed for cats.
Who it suits
Calm cats that are already relaxed outdoors and dislike the bulk of a vest. Testers and the PetsRadar vet suggest a vest style for cats that spook easily.
Key facts
- Made of durable nylon, with quick-snap buckles and a different color belly strap so you know which part goes where (PetSafe)
- A rubber stopper at the top of the harness helps it fit snugly; includes a matching bungee leash (PetSafe)
- Girth sizes: Small 9 to 11 in (kittens and small cats), Medium 10.5 to 14 in, Large 13 to 18 in (PetSafe UK)
- Measure the girth behind the front legs and around the rib cage; the harness should not be worn when not in use (PetSafe support)
- Not intended as a tie-out; supervise your cat while it wears the harness (PetSafe manual)
What reviewers say
Cats.com tested it on two cats and made it the runner-up: both found it comfortable and the thin straps hide under fur, and one cat preferred the bungee leash. The tester disliked that the strap between the shoulders pinches closed when a cat pulls. PetsRadar does not recommend H-style harnesses like this for cats who are easily spooked, and Reviewed notes some owners had escapes. We did not test it ourselves.
Pros and cons
- Pro: Light, thin straps that both test cats found comfortable (Cats.com)
- Pro: Color-coded belly strap shows which part goes where
- Pro: Bungee leash included
- Con: The shoulder strap pinches closed when a cat pulls (Cats.com)
- Con: H-style is less secure than a vest for easily spooked cats (PetsRadar)
- Con: Some owners report escapes (Reviewed)
Cautions
- PetSafe says the harness is not a tie-out and should not be worn when not in use; supervise your cat while it is on.
- Measure your cat’s girth behind the front legs and choose the size from that.
- Before going outside, ask your vet about vaccinations and flea, tick and parasite prevention, and make sure your cat is microchipped.
