Da Bird is a feather wand toy from Go Cat. A real feather lure hangs from a long rod, and when you swing it, it flutters and whirs like a bird, which brings out a cat’s chase instinct.
Who it suits
Indoor cats that need more exercise, young cats with energy to burn, and owners who want a short daily play session. It needs a person on the other end, so it is not a toy to leave out.
Key facts
- Guinea or turkey feathers made to look and sound like a bird in flight (Go Cat)
- 36 inch rod, or a pull-apart version for storage (Go Cat)
- Handcrafted in the USA (Go Cat)
- Replacement attachments sold separately (Go Cat)
What reviewers say
Cats.com said the long, light wand gets cats leaping without much work from you and moves in an unpredictable way. On the downside, they found the thin rod tiring for sore hands and saw the feathers wear down with large, rough cats.
Pros and cons
- Pro: Realistic bird-like motion
- Pro: Long rod keeps claws away from hands
- Pro: Refillable
- Con: Feathers wear out and need replacing
- Con: Thin rod can be hard on wrists
- Con: Needs you to play
Cautions
- Supervise play and put the wand away after, since string and feathers can be swallowed.
- Swap the attachment once it starts to fray.
