What reviewers say
Whole Dog Journal: In a July 2026 roundup, a licensed veterinary technician who has used her Baskerville Ultra for many years named it the best basket muzzle for bigger, boxier heads: it leaves ample room to pant, eat and drink and can be softened in hot water and reshaped, but it is not a good fit for her long, pointy-nosed dogs, has no padding on top of the snout, and a determined dog might still nip.
The Muzzle Up! Project: Calls the Ultra the gold standard for a safe, comfortable basket muzzle, but notes some supporters found the plastic chafes the skin above the nose; fabric strips can help.
We did not test it ourselves.
Pros
- Room to pant, drink and take treats
- Heat-shapeable
- Many sizes
Cons
- May not fit long, narrow or flat-faced heads, per Whole Dog Journal
- No padding on top of the snout; can chafe some dogs
Good to know
- Company of Animals recommends full supervision while your dog wears the muzzle and not leaving it on for long periods unless necessary (https://companyofanimals.com/us/brand-product/baskerville-ultra-muzzle/).
- A muzzle does not change how your dog feels; for fear or aggression, work with a qualified behaviourist and your vet.
