Chuckit! Paraflight

A soft flying disc with a rubber edge and a multilayer nylon middle that floats, sold in small and large sizes.

Who it suits

Dogs that like fetch on land and in water, and owners who want a soft disc that floats. Best for supervised play, since the seams can tear under hard tugging.

Key facts

• Soft rubber edge that is gentle on gums and teeth, with a multilayer nylon interior (Chuckit!)
• Floats in water; comes in small and large sizes (Chuckit!)

What reviewers say

TechGearLab: TechGearLab bought it at retail and named it Best Overall (updated January 2024): its dog testers picked it most often when given a choice of toys, and the large size suited medium to large dogs. After an aggressive tugging session, the stitching had small tears where the rubber meets the mesh, so they say to use it under supervision.

Canine Journal: Canine Journal (September 2023) could throw it a long way and found it floats, but neither size flew straight, and it left the Paraflight out of its picks after seeing fraying on the edges during a week of testing.

We did not test it ourselves.

Pros

• Picked most often by TechGearLab’s dog testers
• Floats
• Soft on teeth and gums

Cons

• Stitching tore after hard tugging, per TechGearLab
• Fraying and crooked flight, per Canine Journal
• Light weight makes it harder to throw in wind, per TechGearLab

Good to know

• Use it under supervision and take it away once the seams tear, as TechGearLab advises.
• PetMD says not to let your dog play with a disc unless you are playing too (https://www.petmd.com/dog/wellness/evr_dg_your_dog_and_a_flying_disc).
