What reviewers say

Cats.com: Writer Liz Coleman tested cat collars for Cats.com, checking each breakaway function and how easy it was to adjust and watching how her own cat reacted (article updated by Katelynn Sobus, April 2026). Cats.com named this collar its overall best: the quick-release clip comes undone with a reasonable amount of tension, the fish motif is highly reflective, it is machine washable and the bell is on a split ring so you can take it off. Its one complaint was that the nylon was a little stiffer than other collars. Cats.com lists the size as 8 to 12.5 inches; Red Dingo’s own chart says 8 to 13 inches.

We did not test it ourselves.

Pros

  • Clip designed to release at a set load (2 kg), per Red Dingo
  • Highly reflective, per Cats.com
  • Removable bell and a ring for an ID tag

Cons

  • Nylon a little stiffer than other collars, per Cats.com
  • One adult size; very small cats need the kitten version

Good to know

  • Fit it so you can slide two fingers under the collar, and check the fit again after a few minutes, as Cats Protection advises (https://www.cats.org.uk/help-and-advice/caring-for-your-cat/choosing-a-cat-collar). Red Dingo’s own size guide says to allow a finger gap.
  • Check the clip still opens easily, since PDSA warns release buckles can get blocked with dirt and grease (https://www.pdsa.org.uk/pet-help-and-advice/looking-after-your-pet/kittens-cats/cat-collars).
  • If you see rubbing, hair loss or a wound under the collar, take it off and see your vet.
