Hurtta’s warmest winter coat: a head-to-tail foil lining, soft ball fibre insulation, a high hood and a wide belly flap, sized by back length.
Who it suits
Short-coated, small, senior or cold-sensitive dogs who walk in sub-zero weather and need the most warmth and coverage.
Key facts
- Head-to-tail foil lining that uses the dog’s body heat, plus ball fibre insulation that mimics the feel of down (Hurtta)
- Soft high tricot hood for the neck and ears, wide belly flap and adjustable webbing belt with a metal G-hook buckle (Hurtta)
- Long hem can be tucked up and snapped shorter; the back-length adjuster sits inside the coat (Hurtta)
- Sizes 25 to 65 cm back length in four colors; the 25 cm size has a built-in harness and leash loop (Hurtta)
- Recycled materials in the wadding, belt, outer fabric and lining (Hurtta)
What reviewers say
Treeline Review: Jae Thomas, a dog trainer, tested it with their own dogs, Miso and Dashi, for Treeline Review’s cold-weather coat test (15 coats, updated January 2026) and named it best for extreme cold. It lost the least heat in the warmth test, water did not leak through, and Thomas called it beautifully made. The catches: it runs about one size too big, so size down, and the new metal belly closure is harder to use than the old plastic buckle.
We did not test it ourselves.
Pros
- Warmest coat in Treeline Review’s test
- Hood and long hem for high coverage
- Many adjustment points
Cons
- Runs about one size big, per Treeline Review
- Metal belly closure is fiddly, per Treeline Review
- Likely too warm for thick double-coated dogs or mild winters
Good to know
- Measure back length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail and check Hurtta’s chart before you order.
- A coat should be snug but not restrict movement, and your dog should be able to behave normally, per the RSPCA (https://www.rspca.org.uk/adviceandwelfare/seasonal/winter/pets/dogs).
- If your dog is shivering, slow or reluctant to move in the cold, bring them inside and call your vet.
