An ultralight duck down sleeping bag for dogs, made for backpacking, with a ripstop nylon shell and a compression sack.

Who it suits

Backpackers who need the lightest, smallest packing bag for a dog that gets cold, such as thin coated breeds. Two sizes. Less suited to dogs that dig hard at their bedding.

Key facts

  • RDS certified 80/20 duck down, 530 fill power (Happy Trails PNW)
  • 20D ripstop nylon shell with a DWR finish and a water repellent lining (Happy Trails PNW)
  • Medium 35 x 27 in, 11 oz; Large 51 x 44 in, 21 oz (Happy Trails PNW)
  • No temperature rating, because dogs differ too much; the maker compares it to a three season bag (Happy Trails PNW)
  • Hand or machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, not in a top loader; tumble dry low (Happy Trails PNW)

What reviewers say

Treeline Review: Jae Thomas, a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, used five dog sleeping bags with her short coated Border Collie mix and her Rough Collie on car camping and backpacking trips, and ran warmth, water spray, zipper and abrasion tests (published 28 September 2026). The Tahoma was her backpacking pick. It held heat best in her warmth test, kept her thin coated dog warm on cold alpine nights, and packed smaller and lighter than any other bag. A strap on its compression sack broke on the first trip, it did worst in her abrasion test, and its square shape let her dog slide partly out. The review does not say how the bag was obtained.

We did not test it ourselves.

Pros

  • Lightest and smallest packing bag in the test
  • Warmest in the tester’s heat retention test
  • Two sizes
  • Maker gives detailed fill and care facts

Cons

  • Compression sack strap broke in testing
  • Least abrasion resistant in the test
  • Square shape suits curled up dogs less well

Good to know

  • Down needs gentle washing; follow the maker’s care steps and dry it fully.
  • If your dog keeps shivering or seems weak or slow in the cold, warm it up and call a vet.
