Ruffwear Dirtbag Dog Bed

A padded outdoor bed built to be hosed clean: an air mesh top, a Qshion mattress inside that lets water, dirt and smells drain through, and a waterproof, non slip base.

Who it suits

Car campers and vanlifers whose dog comes back muddy or wet, and who want a padded camp bed they can rinse with a hose. One size, 34 x 28 in; it does not fold or pack small.

Key facts

• Breathable air mesh sleeping surface over a Qshion mattress that the maker says lets air, water, dirt and odor pass through rather than soak in (Ruffwear)
• Waterproof, non slip base meant to keep dirt and moisture out on outdoor ground (Ruffwear)
• Cleaning, per the maker: hold it by the handle, hose it down so the grime drains out the bottom, then stand it on end to dry (Ruffwear)
• One size: 34 x 28 x 3 in (86 x 71 x 7.6 cm) (Ruffwear)
• Built in carry handle (Ruffwear)

What reviewers say

Treeline Review: Jae Thomas, a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, tested camping dog beds for Treeline Review with three dogs on car camping trips and dog friendly outings, plus abrasion and water spray tests (published 6 August 2026, updated 25 August 2026). The article does not say how the beds were obtained. This was the overall winner. The tester found the bed hard to get dirty or smelly, easy to brush off and rinse, and noticed the dogs stayed cooler on it than on other foam beds despite its dark color. Muddy paw prints did show on the fabric, the cover does not come off, and the bed does not fold or pack down.

We did not test it ourselves.

Pros

• Hose it down instead of machine washing
• Waterproof, non slip base for outdoor ground
• Overall winner in a dog trainer’s hands-on camping bed test
• Carry handle

Cons

• One size only
• Does not fold or pack small
• Cover does not come off

Good to know

• Let it dry fully, standing on end, before you store it or use it again.
• Check the 34 x 28 in size against your dog and your tent floor before you buy.
