Key facts
- Two rotary motor speeds, 2,700 and 3,400 strokes per minute (Andis)
- Sealed motor that the maker says runs cool without vents or fans and reduces noise (Andis)
- Detachable blade system that works with UltraEdge, CeramicEdge, ShowEdge and Oster A-5 blades (Andis)
- Corded, with a 14 ft cord, and weighs 17.6 oz (Andis)
- Guide combs are not included, so you buy them separately (The Spruce Pets)
What reviewers say
The Spruce Pets: The Spruce Pets tested 21 clippers on real dogs with pet owners who are not professional groomers (updated January 2025), and named this its best corded clipper. The tester found it durable and easy to clean with its detachable blade. It was not the quietest and got a little warm, but no more than other clippers they tried. The cord took some getting used to and made it less agile around the belly and feet, and the tester missed guide combs, which give more confidence that you will not cut too close to the skin.
We did not test it ourselves.
Pros
- Two speeds for thick coats
- Detachable blades in many lengths
- Sealed motor the maker says runs cool and quieter
Cons
- No guide combs in the box, per The Spruce Pets
- Cord makes it less agile around belly and feet, per The Spruce Pets
- Got a little warm in use, per The Spruce Pets
Good to know
- Check the blade often for heat, as groomers quoted by PetMD warn hot blades can burn the skin (https://www.petmd.com/dog/care/evr_dg_diy-tips-for-grooming-dog-at-home).
- Fit a guide comb before you start until you are confident with a bare blade.
- If you nick the skin, switch off, apply gentle pressure and call your vet for advice, as Webvet’s vet reviewed guide says (https://www.webvet.com/using-dog-clippers/).
