Who it suits
Puppies, small dogs and noise sensitive dogs who are new to grinding. Large dogs with thick, hard nails may need a stronger tool.
Key facts
- Two speeds, rechargeable, about 2 hours per charge in testing (Whole Dog Journal)
- Built-in guard with three ports for different nail sizes and a diamond grinding bit (Whole Dog Journal)
- Casfuy says to pick the port that fits the nail and start on the low speed (Casfuy)
- Casfuy suggests touching the nail for only a few seconds at a time and advises beginners to keep the guard on (Casfuy)
- For nails too big for the ports, Casfuy says the guard can come off, with long paw hair kept well away (Casfuy)
What reviewers say
Whole Dog Journal: Jae Thomas, a certified professional dog trainer, tested it alongside the Dremel PawControl 7760 and a Ryobi rotary tool (published June 24, 2026; the article does not say whether units were maker samples) and named it the best budget pick. It was by far the quietest of the three, which suits puppies, noise sensitive dogs and dogs new to grinding, but it had the least power. Thomas found it fine for small dogs and nails that are not very thick, and suggests a stronger grinder with more speeds for large breeds. Battery life was about two hours per charge.
We did not test it ourselves.
Pros
- Quietest grinder in Whole Dog Journal’s test
- Guard with three port sizes
- Diamond bit lasts longer than sanding bands, per Whole Dog Journal
Cons
- Least powerful in the test
- Not the best choice for large dogs with thick nails
- Only two speeds
Good to know
- Grind a little at a time and keep long paw hair away from the bit, as the AKC advises (https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/health/trim-dog-nails/).
- Start with the grinder switched on near your dog, without touching a nail, until they stay relaxed.
- If a nail bleeds and will not stop, or a nail is cracked or very overgrown, see your vet.
