What reviewers say
Treeline Review: Jae Thomas paired it with a Garmin Alpha 10 handheld and used it for months on hikes, camp trips and off-road drives in Utah and Colorado (review dated August 2026) and called it the most reliable GPS collar they had tested; Treeline Review’s GPS collar guide names it best for rural areas. It worked with no cell service and had the fastest updates in the test. It is big and bulky, Thomas felt it was too large for dogs under about 30 to 40 pounds, distance readings were off when the dog was very close, pairing took two tries, and it needs a costly handheld. Treeline Review does not say whether the unit was a maker sample.
We did not test it ourselves.
Pros
- Works with no cell service
- No subscription for radio tracking
- Fastest updates in Treeline Review’s test
Cons
- Needs a separate Garmin handheld
- Big and bulky for smaller dogs, per Treeline Review
- Radio range is limited to about 9 miles
Good to know
- Pair and test the collar and handheld outdoors before a trip, as Treeline Review found pairing needs a sky view.
- Remove the collar after outings; it is built for the field, not all day wear, per Treeline Review.
- Keep an ID tag with your phone number on your dog, and see a vet after any injury in the field.
