Who it suits

Medium and large dogs that play disc in open fields, and owners who want long, accurate throws. Hard plastic, so only for supervised play.

Key facts

  • Puncture-resistant competition disc, 8.75 in across, 150 grams (Hyperflite)
  • Not intended to be used as a chew toy; does not float in water (Hyperflite)

What reviewers say

TechGearLab: TechGearLab bought it at retail (updated January 2024) and called it the Ferrari of dog frisbees: it went about 30% farther and longer than the Hyper Pet Flippy Flopper in their throwing test. Its hard plastic is tough on teeth and gums, so they say to use it with a great deal of supervision. Their smaller dog, Buddy, had trouble catching and carrying it, while the more athletic Peitu loved it.

Canine Journal: Canine Journal (September 2023) found it the most fun to throw of the discs it reviewed, but noted that it does not float and that its single, rigid size can be hard for small dogs to drag back.

Whole Dog Journal: Whole Dog Journal (first published 2012, updated 2019) paid for its test discs, had a college Ultimate team throw them and a disc dog competitor try them, and chose the bite-resistant Jawz as its top pick.

We did not test it ourselves.

Pros

  • Longest, most accurate throws in TechGearLab’s test
  • Puncture-resistant
  • A top pick in three hands-on reviews

Cons

  • Hard plastic is tough on teeth and gums, per TechGearLab
  • Hard for small dogs to pick up and carry
  • Does not float

Good to know

  • Hyperflite says it is not a chew toy (https://web.archive.org/web/20260317083628/https://hyperflite.com/shop/k-10-jawz-disc/). Check it for punctures or sharp edges and replace it when worn.
  • PetMD says to throw the disc low, to the dog and not at the dog, and to aim for your dog to land on all fours (https://www.petmd.com/dog/wellness/evr_dg_your_dog_and_a_flying_disc).
