What reviewers say
Vetstreet named the Ultima Pro its best overall dog travel crate, pointing to the professional-gauge steel, the front and side doors with slide-bolt latches, and the included handle, divider panel and removable tray. It warned that sturdy also means heavy.
CNN Underscored found it extremely sturdy, with thicker wire and smaller gaps than the LifeStages, but in its door strength test it did only slightly better than the LifeStages, it was much heavier to carry, and the tester says no wire crate is escape proof.
Pros and cons
- Pro: Heavier gauge steel than MidWest’s other wire crates
- Pro: Front and side doors with slide-bolt latches
- Pro: Folds flat with detachable handles
- Con: Heavy to carry
- Con: Only slightly stronger than the LifeStages in CNN’s test
- Con: Not escape proof
Cautions
- Size it from your dog’s adult measurements.
- Remove tags and loose collars before your dog is crated alone.
- A heavier crate is not a fix for crate panic: if your dog tries hard to escape, talk to your vet or a trainer.
