A flying disc made of KONG Classic natural rubber, sized for small dogs up to 20 lbs or large dogs of 30 to 65 lbs.

Who it suits

Dogs that play fetch in a yard or park and owners who want a soft rubber disc that is easy on hands and teeth. It sinks, so it is not for water play.

Key facts

  • Made of KONG Classic natural rubber for a forgiving catch (KONG)
  • Small is about 7 in across, for dogs up to 20 lbs; Large is about 9 in, for dogs of 30 to 65 lbs (KONG)
  • Outdoor and supervised use only; not intended as a chew toy; stop using it if damaged (KONG)

What reviewers say

TechGearLab: Hannah Marshall’s team bought eight discs at retail and tested them with two dogs (updated January 2024). They found the KONG Flyer’s natural rubber soft on hands and teeth and easy to clean, and their smaller dog, Buddy, chased and retrieved the small size with ease. It does not have much loft and does not float, so they suggest skipping the beach.

Canine Journal: Canine Journal (September 2023) named it the best rubber disc after testing more than 24 discs. The rubber held up well to its dog’s teeth, the flex made it easy to pick up off the ground, and it threw the farthest of the rubber discs they tried. The only real downside it found was that it does not float.

We did not test it ourselves.

Pros

  • Soft rubber, gentle on hands and teeth, per TechGearLab
  • Easy for dogs to pick up off the ground, per Canine Journal
  • Two sizes by dog weight

Cons

  • Does not float, per both testers
  • Not much loft, per TechGearLab
  • The maker lists no size for dogs of 20 to 30 lbs

Good to know

  • KONG says supervised use only and not a chew toy (https://www.kongcompany.com/kong-flyer/).
  • PetMD says to have your vet check your dog’s condition before starting disc play (https://www.petmd.com/dog/wellness/evr_dg_your_dog_and_a_flying_disc).
