Who it suits

Owners who want a crash certified crate for a larger dog (Lucky Duck sizes the Large for dogs of 70 to 110 lb), or a kennel with tie downs for a truck bed. Bulky, and the door is plastic.

Key facts

  • Patented one-piece rotomolded body; the maker says it was tested to withstand 4,000 lb of force (Lucky Duck)
  • Injection molded door that flips to open either way, corner locking pins and a one-hand locking paddle latch (Lucky Duck)
  • Raised, pitched floor that drains water to side channels, drain holes, powder coated tie downs, non-slip rubber feet and lift handles (Lucky Duck)
  • Sizes for travel: Medium for dogs under 50 lb (27 lb kennel), Intermediate for dogs under 70 lb (38 lb), Large for dogs 70 to 110 lb (45 lb); for home use only, the maker suggests one size up (Lucky Duck)
  • CPS certified with the Lucky Ratchet Strap Kit in Medium (tested January 2024, 50 lb test dog), Intermediate and Large (Center for Pet Safety)

What reviewers say

Center for Pet Safety: The independent nonprofit certified the Lucky Kennel with the Lucky Ratchet Strap Kit in Medium, Intermediate and Large under its crate crash test protocol; the Medium was tested in January 2024 with a 50 lb test dog.

Field & Stream: Sage Marshall (October 2026) named it best for trucks after testing it with his own dog. He found it sturdy, though not quite as tank-like as the Gunner G1, and liked the lockable door and powder coated tie downs for securing it in a truck bed. He found it heavy and bulky, and the all plastic door frame felt less solid than the rest of the crate.

We did not test it ourselves.

Pros

  • Passed CPS crash testing in all three sizes
  • Lighter than many rotomolded kennels
  • Tie downs, drain floor and lockable door
  • Made in the USA

Cons

  • Bulky
  • Plastic door frame feels less solid
  • Heavy to lift in the Large size

Good to know

  • CPS certified it with the Lucky Ratchet Strap Kit; secure it the way the maker instructs.
  • Use the maker’s travel sizes; the home size advice (one size up) is not for the car.
